The 2025 Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival (FICPV) begins today, Friday, June 13, ushering in four days of film screenings, industry events, and cultural exchanges across various venues throughout the city. Organized by the Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta) in partnership with the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), this year marks the festival’s 25th edition — and all events are open to the public free of charge.
Kicking off at 4:00 p.m., the festival’s opening gala will be held at the Dr. Juan Luis Cifuentes Lemus Auditorium at CUCosta. Celebrated as the region’s premier cinematic event, FICPV highlights Mexican cinema alongside notable films from Spain and the United States. It also provides a vital platform for professional development and dialogue among filmmakers, critics, students, and audiences.
This year’s program features seven feature films and a short film session, showcasing works from the Made in Jalisco and Premio Maguey sections. Screenings will take place at multiple venues, including the Dr. Juan Luis Cifuentes Auditorium, Cinépolis Pitillal, Domo Ixtapa, Universidad de la Veracruz, and The Top Sky Bar.
Highlight titles include:
- Abracadáver (dark comedy)
- Duva (documentary)
- No, gracias, ya no fumo (comedy)
- La Joia: Bad Gyal (musical documentary)
- Sobre las olas (drama)
- Animated shorts from the Hecho en Jalisco section
- Las hijas del viento (documentary on visual impairment)
- A millones de litros (science fiction drama)
Additionally, a special master class titled “The Construction of the Cinematic Universe” will be led by filmmaker Arturo Montero at the Los Mangos Cultural Center Library.
