Puerto Vallarta has introduced an innovative safety initiative called the “Tourist Button,” which aims to enhance the security and emergency response for both tourists and residents in the area. The initiative includes the installation of 120 strategically placed poles throughout Puerto Vallarta, along with the creation of a centralized Command and Control Center (C2). The C2 will serve as the operational hub for monitoring reports and coordinating rapid responses to emergencies, ensuring that help arrives as quickly as possible.
The poles are designed in a bright blue color, making them highly visible and easily identifiable in various environments. They are strategically located in key areas of high pedestrian traffic, including the linear park, boardwalk, hotel zone, bank districts, tourist attractions, and other strategic points where the public congregates. This placement ensures that the system is accessible and noticeable to both locals and visitors alike.
When a button on one of these poles is pressed, an alert is immediately sent to an operator at the Command and Control Center. The operator is trained to promptly initiate communication with the person who activated the button to gather essential details about the situation. This two-way communication ensures that the operator can assess the urgency of the incident and understand specific needs before dispatching appropriate assistance.
The system’s capabilities allow for a broad range of incidents to be reported, including but not limited to theft, harassment, medical emergencies, fires, and other critical situations.
