108. Puerto Vallarta International Airport Expansion 40% Complete

Transforming Puerto Vallarta’s International Airport with Terminal 2

Puerto Vallarta’s international airport is in the midst of a significant transformation, highlighted by the ongoing construction of Terminal 2. This new terminal aims to improve connectivity and cater to the increasing passenger traffic. Last weekend, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Jalisco’s Secretary of Tourism, along with representatives from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), conducted a site visit to assess the progress of this ambitious project.

Current Progress and Future Capacity

As of now, construction is 40% complete. Once operational, Terminal 2 is projected to serve over eight million passengers annually, further establishing Puerto Vallarta as a leading global destination. Covering more than 89,000 square meters, the new terminal is designed to efficiently handle both domestic and international flights. Incorporating advanced technology, the facility aims to enhance the check-in and boarding experience, significantly improving overall passenger satisfaction.

A Vision for Tourism Growth

“Puerto Vallarta is a well-known and successful tourism destination on the world stage,” stated Fridman Hirsch. “Projects like this, along with advancements in infrastructure and private investments, will foster continued growth in tourism not only in Puerto Vallarta but also in Guadalajara.”

Commitment to Sustainability and Safety

The construction of Terminal 2 integrates 23,000 tons of steel and includes 31 seismic isolators, ensuring the safety and resilience of the structure. Additionally, the terminal is on track to achieve LEED Gold Certification, a mark of recognition for its sustainable and energy-efficient design. This commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure further elevates Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as an innovative travel hub.

Wider Investment Landscape in Jalisco

In a broader context, authorities highlighted the comprehensive investment plan for Jalisco’s airports, which encompasses a total allocation of 26 billion pesos under GAP’s 2025-2029 Master Development Plan. A significant portion, amounting to 22.377 billion pesos, is specifically designated for the expansion of Guadalajara International Airport, representing a historic investment for Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico.

Looking Ahead

As Terminal 2 moves closer to completion, Puerto Vallarta International Airport is on track to enhance regional connectivity, attract new international markets, and secure its legacy as a top-tier tourist destination. With these developments, the future looks bright for the region’s tourism industry.
