138. Tepic and Puerto Vallarta Airports to Be Linked by New Highway Network

Travel between Tepic and Puerto Vallarta is soon to become much faster and more convenient, thanks to the completion of two major infrastructure projects: the Tepic-Compostela Highway and a new 5-kilometer connector that links the Jala Highway directly to Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Both projects are scheduled for completion by September 2025.

Once finished, these new routes will cut the travel time between Tepic International Airport and Puerto Vallarta Airport to just 75 minutes. This development is expected to revolutionize tourism and enhance regional connectivity between Nayarit and Jalisco.

According to Mexico’s Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT), improved mobility will facilitate easier access for both domestic and international tourists, allowing for more efficient flight options from either airport. Both Tepic and Puerto Vallarta airports serve major routes across Mexico, the United States, Canada, and Europe.

In addition to the new highway links, both airports are undergoing significant upgrades. Puerto Vallarta International Airport will open a second terminal in 2026, while Tepic’s airport is expanding its terminal, runway, control tower, and operational systems, with completion expected by the end of 2024.

Together, these highway and airport developments represent a substantial investment in the region’s transportation infrastructure, poised to enhance travel convenience, stimulate tourism, and boost economic activity throughout Riviera Nayarit and the coastal areas of Jalisco.
