1. Fines to be Imposed for Improper Trash Disposal in Puerto Vallarta

Juan Pablo Martínez Torres, the manager of Puerto Vallarta City and Historic Center, recently announced that municipal authorities will begin enforcing regulations against illegal garbage disposal starting next week. This initiative targets those who discard waste on streets and sidewalks outside designated collection hours and follows the recent transition of waste collection services to a private company.

“This initiative arises from an agreement with tenants and business owners in the boardwalk, historic center, and romantic zone areas. After nearly a month of informing them about the established collection schedules, we are now moving into a phase of awareness through warnings. If we discover trash at street corners, we will identify the source. The responsible business or restaurant will initially receive a warning, and if violations continue, the Inspection and Surveillance department will impose appropriate fines or sanctions,” Martínez stated.

While he did not specify the exact fines for violators, he mentioned that penalties are outlined in the Municipal Income Law and that the relevant agency will publish a detailed fine structure soon.

Martínez encouraged community involvement and vigilant reporting of infractions: “We want neighbors to keep an eye on each other’s actions. Violations can be reported to the Inspection and Surveillance phone lines or directly to the Municipal Presidency, which will generate a report that leads to a site visit and the filing of an official complaint,” he explained.

This initiative aims to foster a cleaner environment and enhance community responsibility in maintaining the city’s public spaces.
