Exciting news for tourists planning a beach getaway to Puerto Vallarta this spring! The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) has announced that all local beaches are safe for swimming and recreational activities during the upcoming Holy Week and Easter holidays, making it the perfect destination for sun-seekers and holidaymakers.
Between March 18 and 26, 2025, COFEPRIS, in collaboration with the Jalisco State Commission against Sanitary Risks (COPRISJAL), conducted thorough water quality tests at ten popular beaches in Puerto Vallarta. These tests focused on measuring enterococci bacteria levels in the seawater, adhering to the highest standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Mexico’s Official Standards.
The results are reassuring: every beach tested in Puerto Vallarta met stringent safety criteria, posing no health risks for visitors. This clean bill of health ensures that the many tourists expected to flock to Puerto Vallarta during the Semana Santa and Pascua holidays can enjoy their beachfront activities with peace of mind. “All of the beaches along the northern coast of Jalisco are suitable for recreation, which allows us to confidently welcome tourists,” shared José Antonio Muñoz Serrano, Commissioner of COPRISJAL.
Notably, Oasis Beach was previously flagged as unsuitable during the December 2024 monitoring. Fortunately, recent assessments have shown significant improvement, and it is now open and safe for holidaymakers.
Detailed analyses confirmed that all sampled locations in Puerto Vallarta are well within acceptable limits for enterococci, ensuring enjoyable and healthy conditions for tourists. Specific readings include Yelapa Beach and Quimixto Beach at 18 NMP/100 mL, Las Animas Beach at 16, Mismaloya Beach at 15, Gemelas Beaches at 13, Los Muertos Beach at 12, Cuale Beach at 14, Oasis Beach and Las Palmas Beach at 10, and Camarones Beach at 17 NMP/100 mL.
COFEPRIS also reported that 98% of beaches across Mexico meet safety standards, ensuring that visitors can confidently relax on beautiful shores nationwide.
As visitors prepare to enjoy the stunning beaches of Puerto Vallarta, COFEPRIS urges everyone to participate in keeping these natural treasures pristine by maintaining cleanliness along the coastline. It is a shared responsibility that enhances the safety and enjoyment for all who come to experience the beauty of this paradise.
With safe waters and a welcoming atmosphere, Puerto Vallarta is ready to embrace tourists for a memorable and enjoyable Semana Santa and Pascua 2025. Get ready to soak up the sun and create unforgettable memories in this beautiful coastal destination!
