This weekend, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, Secretary of Tourism of Jalisco, along with authorities from the Pacific Airport Group (GAP), conducted a tour of the construction site of Terminal 2 at Puerto Vallarta International Airport.
During the visit, they inspected the progress, which currently stands at 40%. Once completed, this expansion is expected to enable the airport to serve over eight million passengers annually. Terminal 2 will be one of the five largest airports in Mexico, handling 90% of the country’s international connectivity and strengthening Puerto Vallarta’s position as a global destination.
The expansion covers an area of more than 89,000 square meters and will have capacity for both domestic and international flights, facilitating even greater tourism flow worldwide. In 2024, the airport welcomed 6.7 million visitors, and with these new facilities, projected growth is expected to accelerate in the coming years.
Fridman Hirsch stated that this expansion will ensure Puerto Vallarta continues to be a leading destination in the Caribbean and Pacific regions, boosting its presence in international markets. The structure of the terminal used 23,000 tons of steel and 31 seismic isolators, ensuring safety and resistance against natural events.
Additionally, the new infrastructure will incorporate cutting-edge technology in passenger documentation and service processes, enhancing the traveler experience. The project has obtained LEED Gold certification, making it an environmentally sustainable construction.
The opening of this state-of-the-art terminal is scheduled for the end of 2026, marking a key step in further establishing Puerto Vallarta as a top-tier tourist destination in Mexico and around the world.
