116. Puerto Vallarta Set to Receive 76 New City Buses

Puerto Vallarta is set to significantly enhance its public transportation system with the introduction of 76 new buses, expected to arrive in April. This announcement was made by Jalisco Transportation Secretary Diego Monraz during his visit to the city on March 21, 2025.

These new buses will be integrated into the UnibusPV fleet, responsible for public transit in the city under a contract with the Jalisco government. Although the buses faced a three-week delay in Manzanillo due to fiscal and credit complications with the manufacturer, Fotón, Secretary Monraz has assured that these issues have been resolved and the vehicles will soon be on their way to Puerto Vallarta.

Upon arrival, each bus will undergo branding and essential upgrades, including the installation of air conditioning, before becoming fully operational within the city’s transportation network. The goal of this expansion is to enhance service quality and reduce wait times for passengers, ultimately improving the overall commuting experience.

Currently, Puerto Vallarta has a fleet of 200 public transport buses, of which 50 are relatively new. With the addition of this new batch, the total fleet will expand to 276 buses, thereby improving coverage and efficiency across all routes.

This development marks just the beginning of a more comprehensive restructuring of Puerto Vallarta’s transportation system. The city is also anticipating the arrival of 38 articulated electric buses from China later this year, which will elevate Puerto Vallarta’s status as a leader in urban mobility on a national level.

Secretary Monraz detailed the ongoing public transportation modernization plan, highlighting that the deployment of the 38 electric buses along Francisco Medina Ascencio Avenue will commence in October. These articulated buses will connect the University Center of the Coast with the city center, backed by a substantial investment exceeding 867 million pesos.

To support the community further, Monraz reaffirmed the continuation of the My Passage student discount program and discounts for senior citizens. He confirmed that the fare will remain at a consistent 10 pesos, ensuring that public transportation remains accessible for all residents.

With these initiatives, Puerto Vallarta is making significant strides toward establishing a modern, efficient, and environmentally sustainable public transportation system.
