Governor Pablo Lemus has announced that Puerto Vallarta will soon have a new tertiary care hospital by 2026, marking a significant advancement in healthcare for the coastal region. This much-anticipated facility is expected to benefit more than 290,000 residents by providing access to specialized medical services that have been lacking in the area.
The initiative to establish this hospital is largely attributed to the tireless efforts of local representative Yussara Canales González. Her persistent advocacy in the State Congress has been instrumental in driving this project forward. On June 10, 2023, Canales formally proposed the construction of the hospital, highlighting the urgent need for improved medical care due to the region’s growing population and increasing healthcare demands.
Canales underscored the necessity of reducing the need for patients to be transferred to Guadalajara for treatment, advocating for a local facility that can handle serious emergencies, chronic conditions, and complex surgeries. The new hospital will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and staffed by trained specialists, ensuring that residents receive the quality care they deserve.
During a pivotal meeting with Governor Lemus at the Puerto Vallarta Convention Center on January 4, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the project. The new hospital will be modeled after the Guadalajara Civil Hospital, representing a significant upgrade for the coastal healthcare system.
In addition to the hospital, discussions during the meeting also included other essential topics such as traffic signal modernization, school renovations, and public works projects aimed at enhancing community infrastructure. These initiatives reflect a broader commitment to improving the quality of life in Puerto Vallarta.
With the establishment of this tertiary care hospital, Yussara Canales solidifies her reputation as a strong advocate and an effective liaison between the Jalisco Congress and the constituents of Puerto Vallarta. Her dedication not only seeks to address immediate healthcare needs but also paves the way for a healthier future for the entire region. This milestone represents a hopeful turning point for residents, promising enhanced medical services and a stronger healthcare system overall.
